While working on projects that are geographically dispersed, its very important to have effective ways of communication. That is why I use Skype video and voice calls along with Google Docs, a free online tool to help manage each project. The process I take my clients on will be customized but similar to the following.
Step 1. Describe Your Project
Explain things like your goals, objectives and activities; what your core values are, your outputs, outcomes and impacts, all from your point of view. Do you have a branding already? A logo etc.? What about colours? Finally, what is the vision of your organization? Once I've lsitened to you, I will produce a quote.
Step 2. Agree On The Price
Depending on exactly what you want, the price could go up or down. However, I always produce competitive quotes. Once we've agreed on a price the journey quickly gets going.
Step 3. Make a Down Payment
I'll ask at this point for an advance payment of 30%. (Commit on working with me, while being assured that I will deliver). I believe that this way is most fair for everyone.
Step 4. The Design Phase
I'll always be available to connect with you to assure that everything is running smoothly via Google Docs and Skype, or email and phone if need be. During this phase I go away and design initial proposals for you, then work through a process of revisions; all while using Google Docs to aid communication and give you the opportunity to see exact design revisions made, before moving everything to code (in the case of a website). The completion of this phase is when you are satisfied with my design and sign it off. This would be the final design work before payment for those requiring a print project.
Step 5. Submit Your Content
At this point I ask you to submit any additional photos, text and other content you'd like to include if I am creating you a website. (Don't worry about this, I can help you sort through it.) Once this phase is completed and the designs have been signed off, I'll then convert the design to code including content submitted.
Step 6. User Testing
At this point you will be able to privately see your website online for the first time. You can make revisions and list them in the Google Doc and check the progress of revisions. When everyone is agreed, your website goes live!
Step 7. Sign Off
Whatever type of project, when it is completed and you're happy with my work, I'll ask for the final 70% of your payment. (Close the deal while fully satisfied with my work.)
